Feb 16 Vonnie Holliday on ITT Live Broadcast... It's a Holliday! - Sunday, February 14, 2010

Dimetry Giovonni "Vonnie" Holliday (born December 12, 1975 in Camden, South Carolina) is an American football defensive lineman who is currently on the Denver Broncos. He was drafted by the Green Bay Packers 19th overall in the 1998 NFL Draft. He played college football at North Carolina. As of September 5, 2009 Holliday has signed with the Denver Broncos after passing the teams physical.

Holliday has also played for the Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins.

Early years

Holliday was a multi-sport star athlete at Camden High School in South Carolina. As a senior, Holliday was a first-team all-state selection and the Class 3A Lineman of the Year for his work on the gridiron. He was a three-time all-area and all-conference selection on defense, where he playeddefensive end, defensive tackle and linebacker. Holliday also played offense as a tight end and was an all-conference selection there as well.

In basketball, Holliday earned all-conference honors as a senior after leading his team to a record of 28-3 and the state semi-finals. He was also a three-time letterman in baseball where he played pitcher, catcher, first baseman and third baseman.

College career

Holliday was a four-year letterman (1994-1997) at North Carolina, during which time he appeared in 46 games and started 28 of them. He was one of only three true freshmen to play in 1994 and registered 12 tackles. As a co-captain his senior year, Holliday earned a first-team All-ACC selection with career-highs in tackles (64) and sacks (5). For his career, Holliday compiled 162 tackles and 11 sacks. He graduated with a degree in communications.

Professional career

Green Bay Packers

Holliday was drafted 19th overall in the 1998 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers - coincidentally with a pick acquired from Holliday's future team, the Miami Dolphins. He had an impressive rookie season, compiling 39 tackles, a franchise rookie record eight sacks, two fumble recoveries and fivepasses defensed despite missing four of the final five regular season games. In the first round of the playoffs, Holliday recorded a sack against Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young of the San Francisco 49ers. For his performance in 1998, Holliday was a consensus all-rookie selection and finished second behind Oakland Raiders cornerback Charles Woodson (now with the Packers) for AP's Defensive Rookie of the Year award.

In 1999, Holliday played his first full pro season. He was once again impressive, leading all Packers linemen with 67 tackles and finishing second on the team with six sacks. He also added a forced fumble, fumble recovery and six passes defensed on the season.

Battling hamstring and ankle injuries, Holliday appeared in 12 games in 2000, starting nine. Holliday played well when he was on the field, totaling 47 tackles, five sacks and four passes defensed. He also grabbed his first career interception in a September 10 contest against quarterback Rob Johnson and the Buffalo Bills.

Back at full health, Holliday had another good season in 2001. On the year, Holliday registered a career-high 81 tackles along with seven sacks, three fumble recoveries, a forced fumble and three passes defensed. Just as in 1999, Holliday finished first among Packers linemen in tackles and second on the team in sacks.

In his final season with the Packers, Holliday missed four games with a torn pectoral muscle and two with a knee injury. In the 10 games he did play, Holliday accumulated 26 tackles, six sacks, an interception, three forced fumbles and four passes defensed. His second career interception came in a December 15 contest against then San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jeff Garcia. Holliday posted the best game of his career on December 22 against the Buffalo Bills, in which he sacked Bills quarterback Drew Bledsoe five times and forced three fumbles - a Packers single game record. The performance against the Bills earned him NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Though the Packers and Holliday discussed a contract extension prior to the 2002 season, the organization's decision to retain defensive tackle Cletidus Hunt - coupled with coach Mike Sherman being a fan of young defensive end Aaron Kampman - spelled the end of Holliday's tenure in Green Bay after the expiration of his rookie contract.

Kansas City Chiefs

As a free agent in 2003, Holliday received interest from multiple teams including the Arizona Cardinals and the Seattle Seahawks. However, it was the Kansas City Chiefs that landed him on April 7, inking him to a five-year deal worth $21.3 million and a signing bonus of $4 million. That being the case, the structure of the contract created what essentially would be a two-year deal due to a $5 million bonus owed before the third year. As things would turn out, those first two years would be the length of Holliday's tenure in Kansas City.

In Holliday's first year as a member of the Chiefs, he posted 80 tackles, 5.5 sacks, a forced fumble and three passes defensed. He made a splash in his first game in red and gold, sacking San Diego Chargers quarterback Drew Brees three times. On a lackluster Chiefs defense, Holliday's 5.5 sacks were surprisingly best on the team.

Abdomen, groin and knee injuries limited Holliday in 2004 as he played in only nine games and started three. In the games he did play, Holliday totaled 13 tackles and two passes defensed. He was placed on Injured Reserve on December 24, ending his season and eventually his tenure in Kansas City.

Holliday was released by the team on February 28, 2005 - a move which saved the team over $6 million on that season's salary cap.

Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins showed great interest in Holliday right from the start, and signed him to a contract less than two weeks after his release from the Chiefs. The two-year deal with the Dolphins included a $1 million signing bonus, minimum base salaries and over $5 million in possible incentives.

Holliday found a new home with the Dolphins at defensive tackle. Holliday's big, strong frame gave him the ability to play inside, where he displayed great ability against the run and rushing the passer. He started all 16 games as an interior defensive lineman that year, compiling 56 tackles, five sacks, two fumble recoveries and six passes defensed. Holliday's best game of the year came on November 27 against the Oakland Raiders, where he produced five tackles and two of the Dolphins' seven sacks that day.

Holliday started all 16 games for the second straight season in 2006. In one of the best seasons of his career, Holliday amassed 66 tackles, seven sacks, a fumble recovery and a pass defensed. Holliday's seven sacks in 2006 ranked second on the team behind only Defensive Player of the Year Jason Taylor's 13.5, and also ranked third in the league among defensive tackles. It was also the highest total for a Dolphins player at the position in more than two decades.

On February 21, 2007 the Dolphins re-signed Holliday to a four-year deal that would prevent the upcoming free agent from hitting the open market, where he was surely to cash in after a stellar 2006 campaign. The new deal was worth approximately $20 million, and he will make $7 million in the first year alone.

In November 2008, Holliday was selected by his teammates at the team's NFLPA player representatives.

On March 2, 2009, Holliday was released by the Dolphins after failing to agree on a re-structured contract.

Denver Broncos

On September 4, 2009 Holliday signed with the Denver Broncos.

2007 - 2008

On February 26, 2007, Jenkins signed a four year, $16 million contract extension. Jenkins batted down nine passes in 2007, the most by a Packers defensive lineman since the team began recording the statistic in 1980.

In the 2008 season, the Packers decided to start Jenkins instead of KGB for the second season in a row. He could only play four games though, before he suffered a torn pectoral muscle against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on September 28, 2008. Two days later, he was placed on season-ending injured reserve.

February 2nd: Ahman Rashad Green the RB for the Green Bay Packers on ITT Live Broadcast - Saturday, January 30, 2010

Image courtesy of www.footballsfuture.comImage courtesy of www.nsca.com

Ahman Rashad Green (pronounced /ɑːˈmɑːn/; born February 16, 1977 in Omaha, Nebraska) is an American football running back who is currently with the Green Bay Packers. He was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the 3rd round of the 1998 NFL Draft. He played college football at Nebraska. Green has also played for the Houston Texans. He was a four-time Pro Bowl selection with the Packers.

Early years

Green attended Omaha North before transferring to Omaha Central for high school. He was a high school All-American selection and state 'Player of the Year' as a senior.

Early career

Green was a standout running back and three year starter for the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers. He was an integral component and key contributor on two national championship squads.

Freshman (1995)

As a freshman Ahman Green was perhaps overshadowed by his backfield mates running back Lawrence Phillips and quarterback Tommie Frazier. But Ahman Green's freshman year at Nebraska was certainly a memorable one. He was a major contributor during Nebraska's 1995 Championship run. He rushed for 1,086 yards (still the school's single-season freshman rushing record) and 13 touchdowns on 141 carries (7.7 avg.) and was honored as a freshman All-America selection by Football News. In addition he earned Big Eight all-conference and 'Freshman of the Year' honors.

Sophomore (1996)

During his sophomore season in 1996, Green compiled a team-leading 917 yards on 155 carries and seven touchdowns, despite a turf toe injury. It was during the 1996 season that he posted a career-high 214 yards against Iowa State University.

Junior (1997)

As a junior, Green garnered All-Big 12 Conference recognition and was named second-team All-America by the Associated Press and The Sporting News as Nebraska again captured the national championship. He was a finalist for the 'Doak Walker Award,' the annual honor for college football's top running back in 1997. During that campaign he carried the ball 278 times for 1,877 yards (6.8 avg.) and 22 touchdowns (a school record for juniors). He posted 12 consecutive 100-yard games, including three contests with over 200 yards (he also had 99 yards on nine carries in the opener against Akron).

During his collegiate career, Green compiled 3,880 rushing yards and 42 touchdowns, both totals good for second place on the Cornhuskers' all-time list. He also posted 300 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 35 catches. Green's most memorable collegiate performance was on January 2, 1998 in the Orange Bowl. He rushed for an Orange Bowl record 206 yards and two touchdowns in 42-17 Orange Bowl victory over third ranked Tennessee. The tandem of Scott Frost and Green easily outperformed Tennessee's constellation of offensive stars: Peyton Manning, Jamal Lewis and Peerless Price. The exceedingly lopsided and decisive nature of this victory contrasted sharply with the also unbeaten Michigan Wolverines' close Rose Bowl victory over the Ryan Leaf's Washington State squad. The discrepancy between the bowl game performances of these two undefeated teams allowed Nebraska to rally from behind in the polls, where Nebraska had fallen behind Michigan after Nebraska's close overtime victory over Missouri, and claim a share of the national title. The performance marked the Cornhuskers' record-setting third national championship in four years.

Professional career

Seattle Seahawks

Green was drafted in the third round (76th overall) of the 1998 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks. Although Green produced a high rushing average (6.0 in 1998 and 4.6 in 1999) he had difficulty earning significant playing time behind established veteran Ricky Watters.

Ahman Green Green Bay Packers - Running - 8x10 Autographed PhotographGreen Bay Packers

In 2000, Green was traded along with a fifth round draft pick to the Green Bay Packers for Fred Vinson and a sixth round pick. He was selected to the NFL Pro Bowl every year from 2001 to 2004 and broke several franchise records. From the time he joined the Packers in 2000 up through the end of the 2004 season, Green gained more yards from scrimmage (9,036) and rushing yards (6,848) than any other NFL player. In 2003, he had his best year as a professional and set the Green Bay franchise record by running for 1,883 yards in the regular season. He threw a touchdown pass on October 17,2004 vs. the Detroit Lions. During his time with the Packers, Green became one of two players in NFL history to have two touchdown runs of 90 or more yards (Bo Jackson is the other). Despite his injury-shortened 2005 season, the Packers re-signed Green to a one-year, $2 million contract, with an extra $3 million in incentives. After the 2006 season he became a free agent.

Houston Texans

On March 4, 2007 Green signed a four-year, $23 million deal with the Houston Texans. He was reunited with his former head coach and former Texans' assistant head coach Mike Sherman along with former Packers running back Samkon Gado. He was asked to handle the bulk of the load at running back after a 2006 season in which the Texans used a "running back by committee" approach, with a lot of success.

On February 10, 2009, Green was released by the Texans.

Return to Green Bay

Ahman Green officially re-signed with the Green Bay Packers on October 21, 2009 after the Packers placed running back DeShawn Wynn on injured reserve. With his former number, 30, taken by fullback John Kuhn, Green chose to wear No. 34 in honor of former Chicago Bears running back Walter Payton. On November 8th, 2009 Green broke Jim Taylor's record to become the Packers all time leading rusher.

Fumbles

Green has struggled with a reputation for being fumble-prone. Former Green Bay star LeRoy Butler cited the left-handed Green's unwillingness to switch the ball to his right arm when running plays to the right side.He has incorporated special arm bands to help keep the ball in his control. It has also been said that Green possibly has a condition called hyperhidrosis, which is the overproduction of sweat, and that this has also contributed to his tendency to fumble. Green has dismissed that notion as simply an excuse and a non-issue.

Personal

Green was named after former NFL wide receiver and current broadcaster Ahmad Rashad. Ahman Green official WebSite: http://www.ahman30.com/

In 2002 he became the Cardinals' number one running back as he led the team with 188 carries, 834 yards, and 9 total touchdowns. At the beginning of the 2003 season Shipp's status was somewhat unclear as the team had signed Emmitt Smith in the offseason. However Shipp again led the team in rushing with 830 yards on the season. In training camp 2004 Shipp suffered a serious knee injury and was forced to miss the entire 2004 season. He did not play at all that year.

In 2005 he was again the Cardinals' leading rusher, but this time with only 451 yards on 157 carries, for 2.9 yards per carry.
